FROM THE DESK OF THE IFAST CHAIRMAN:

Press Release – IFAST/MDG

IFAST Welcomes Its Increased Role in the Effective Life of the CDMA2000® Technology

Washington DC (July 16, 2018) – IFAST (http://ifast.org) and the Mobility Development Group announce the successful completion of the transfer of website content and software to IFAST, including the complete content of the CDG website (http://cdg.org).

CDG, which had been rebranded as the Mobility Development Group (MDG), has long represented CDMA2000® technology to the world, providing information on the benefits of the technology, and supporting operators. CDMA2000® is now operating as a legacy technology, although still widely deployed to provide voice and data services of major carriers like Verizon and Sprint (USA), SK Telecom and LG U Plus (South Korea), KDDI (Japan) and China Telecom. Now that MDG is being dissolved, the role of providing information exchange and harmonization among legacy CDMA stakeholders has been transferred to IFAST. To ensure that important documents and software remain available to the CDMA2000® operator and manufacturer community, IFAST has agreed to host the web content, technical documents and software tools for the remaining effective life of the CDMA2000® technology.

IFAST has long provided numbering and identifier coordination services to the telecom industry and has a particularly strong role with CDMA2000® technology. Now, its portfolio of services will be expanded, and all IFAST members can benefit. Syed Hosain, Chairman of the Board of IFAST said, “IFAST looks forward to supplementing its numbering coordination services, with software that will assist the many remaining CDMA2000® operators with roaming, technical information, and PRL management.”

Some of the most important resources that will be maintained by this agreement include CDG and MDG technical documents, the CRIET roaming tool, a PRL development tool and an MEID/EUIMID calculator.

Tony Lee, representing the MDG Board stated, “The Mobility Development Group is grateful that IFAST has stepped up to assist us. With the MDG now winding down, it was critical that the legacy of resources not be lost. With IFAST taking over the CDG and MDG websites, CDMA2000® operators worldwide can continue to take advantage of 25 years of technology developments”.
